William D. Smith, D.Phil.
Biography
Dr. Smith is a professional and personal coach, therapist, organizational consultant and corporate trainer. He has developed curriculum related to organizational development, leadership, negotiation, emotional energy management, inter-cultural management, advanced stress management, sleep improvement, high impact communication, project management supply chain management and conflict resolution. He has also delivered these courses and trained others to teach these courses in corporations around the world.
Dr. Smith is certified administer the Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment tools. He has been using both of these instruments for over 22 years in a variety of settings to include teaching, and as a consultant in the areas of leadership, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills. He developed and delivered the Advanced Leadership Course for IBM, as well as the Negotiation Skills for Project Managers for Novartis Pharma in Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States. Most recently he developed a course in Negotiation Skills for Supply Chain Managers for Fluor Corporation which consists of four courses and is delivered both on-line and in person. Dr. Smith has taught to a variety of disciplines both in the commercial industry and the federal government sector including project managers, supply chain professionals, contracting officers, mid-level managers, senior executives, and post-doctoral research scientists in the pharmaceutical industry.
Bill holds a Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) in Religion and Society Studies, with an emphasis in Leadership, from Oxford Graduate School, where his dissertation received the Oxford Chancellor’s Honor Award. He also holds a Masters in Adult Education from Troy State University in Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Delaware. Dr. Smith served as an officer in the United States Air Force and is a member of the Oxford Society of Scholars, the Association for Psychological Type (APT), and the American Institute of Hypnotherapy.
